Duck allergy is rare, and the dogs that need this list usually earned it the slow way: duck was their novel protein once, it became the everyday diet, and years of exposure did what years of exposure do. A dog can outgrow its escape hatch.
Duck's label footprint is mercifully small compared to the big proteins: duck, duck meal, duck fat and duck liver cover nearly all of it, and every food below is screened for the set. The harder question is what to switch TO, because a dog that sensitized to one novel protein needs another one it has truly never eaten, and duck is poultry, so chicken and turkey deserve suspicion on the way out.
Our duck allergy guide covers how novelty wears off; our trial-diet list is the place to pick the next protein deliberately.
What to Look For
Pick the next novel protein deliberately
The lesson of a duck allergy is that novelty expires. Choose a replacement your dog has genuinely never eaten, and plan to rotate before years pass.
Duck is poultry
Duck proteins resemble chicken's. A duck-reactive dog stepping to chicken or turkey is stepping sideways, not away; a non-poultry protein is cleaner.
Duck fat rides in premium recipes
Duck fat appears as a palatant in foods that are not duck recipes. The full-list screen here catches it; casual label reading often does not.
Empty the treat drawer too
Duck necks, jerky and training treats are common. During any trial they count as much as the food does.
How We Chose These Foods
We started with the 4,315 dog foods in our database and removed every food with duck anywhere in its full ingredient list, using the same filter engine as our Food Navigator. That left 3,581 matching foods. The 100 highest-rated matches are shown below, ordered by average customer rating. No brand pays for placement. The allergy-risk score estimates how likely each food is to contain common allergy triggers, so you can weigh it alongside ingredients and price.

Medium riskFrequently Asked Questions
What should I feed a dog allergic to duck?
A protein your dog has never eaten, ideally from outside the poultry family: venison, rabbit or a hydrolysed diet. Every food here is duck-free through the full ingredient list.
How did my dog become allergic to duck?
The usual way: exposure. Duck is only hypoallergenic to dogs that have never eaten it, and a dog fed duck daily for years can sensitize to it like any other protein.
Should a duck-allergic dog avoid chicken?
Treat it as a suspect. Poultry proteins are similar and cross-reaction happens, so introduce any bird deliberately and watch.
