Pea-Free Dog Foods

Peas are in roughly a third of the dog foods we track, the quiet workhorse of the grain-free era, which makes avoiding them harder than avoiding almost any ingredient short of chicken. Whether your reason is a suspected sensitivity or simply wanting legumes out of the bowl, the label work is the same.

The screen here runs the full pea panel: whole and split peas, green and yellow peas, pea protein (the concentrated fraction, in over 600 foods), pea fiber, pea starch and pea flour. It matches whole words, so peanut butter and pearled barley do not count as peas. Chickpeas and lentils are different legumes and are not this page's target, though strict legume-family trials often skip them together.
